Trelawny Of The Wells

Marber joins Trelawny company

Published 28 December 2012

Writer Patrick Marber has joined the creative team of Joe Wright’s Trelawny Of The Wells, which will play at the Donmar Warehouse in February.

While the production marks acclaimed film director Wright’s theatrical debut, Marber is a regular at the Donmar Warehouse, having premiered his hugely successful plays After Miss Julie and Don Juan In Soho at the venue.

The playwright, whose other plays include Dealer’s Choice, Closer, Howard Katz and The Musicians, will this time turn his hand to adapting, with the venue describing his role on Wright’s production of as adding “some most respectful additions and ornamentations” to Arthur Wing Pinero’s commedietta in four acts.

The classic tells the story of Rose Trelawny, the brightest star in the firmament of the Wells, the theatre company that raised her from birth. When she decides she is prepared to give it all up for the love of her stage-door suitor Arthur, his family is less then convinced of her charms.

As previously announced, the cast will comprise Jamie Beamish, Ron Cook, Aimée-Ffion Edwards, Susannah Fielding, Daniel Kaluuya, Daniel Mays, Fergal McElherron, Amy Morgan, Joshua Silver, Maggie Steed and Peter Wight.

Trelawny Of The Wells will play from 15 February (press night 23 February) and follows Phyllida Lloyd’s critically acclaimed all-female Julius Caesar at the venue.
