The smash-hit ABBA jukebox musical Mamma Mia! is to stage a second ‘relaxed performance’ at the Novello Theatre this winter.
Following the huge success of the previous ‘relaxed performance’ of Mamma Mia! in 2013, the show’s producers and Mousetrap Theatre Projects have today announced that a second will be staged on Wednesday 16 November at the home of the show for families with one or more children with special needs.
Tickets for the show will be available at specially reduced prices, with children’s tickets starting from as little as £2.50, and adults’ from £5. Families will also be sent support materials to help them prepare for their visit, including an education pack exploring the show’s themes, a ‘Visual Story’ and ‘Sensory Synopsis’, while fully trained staff and volunteers will be on hand at the theatre to ensure the experience is as comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
Relaxed performances are designed to provide an opportunity to attend shows for people with sensory and communication needs who require a more relaxed environment. Mousetrap Theatre Projects is working hard in collaboration with Society Of London Theatre towards their long-term goal of ensuring that such performances become a regular fixture in the West End diary.
Creator and producer of the show, Judy Craymer, said, “I’ve always been proud of the fact that Mamma Mia! appeals to all ages and backgrounds and really does have the feel good factor.
“However, I was overwhelmed by the wonderful reaction of the audience at the last relaxed performance, so was delighted when Mousetrap Theatre Projects asked if we would hold another one. I know it also meant a great deal to all the cast and crew involved on that night three years ago. It was very special and one got a real appreciation for the inclusivity of theatre.”
Entertaining West End audiences since 1999, Mamma Mia! is the beloved feel-good story of a young woman who, on the eve of her wedding, yearns to know the identity of her father, inviting three possible suspects from her mother’s past to the ceremony behind her back. Cue Dancing Queens, Super Troupers, hilarity, and ABBA hits aplenty.
