The Royal Opera House is offering a series of fun musical workshops for children and families this coming half term, 27 to 31 May.
Sounding Out For Families kicks off with a free family open day on 27 May from 12:00-16:00, offering children and families the chance to try their hand at playing an orchestral instrument, see demonstrations from production staff and have a go creating designs. In celebration of the Royal Opera House’s 150th birthday, ghost tours of the building will be held during the open day and continue throughout the week.
From Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 May a series of hands-on workshops will be held allowing participants to try everything from acting and composing to mask designing and storytelling.
The week’s activities come to a conclusion on Saturday 31 May from 14:00-16:00 with a promenade performance, Music On The Move. The performance features members of the orchestra of the Royal Opera House and dancers from the Royal Ballet who lead the audience on an interactive musical journey throughout the venue, incorporating classical and popular music, opera, ballet, and a newly commissioned piece by composer Orlando Gough. Some of the pieces will include narration and exhibit live illustration by James Mayhew.
For more information about individual workshops and to book, visit www.roh.org.uk. The week’s workshops are open to anyone aged six and over, and all children must be accompanied by an adult.
