Made In Dagenham releases first track

First Published 13 June 2014, Last Updated 13 June 2014

If you, like us, have been eagerly wondering what the musical adaptation of Made In Dagenham has in store, prepare to get excited as the show has released one of its songs, Everybody Out.

We seem to be motoring towards the autumn opening of the musical, which stars Brit in Hollywood Gemma Arterton, and weren’t expecting to be given a sneak peek at the songs until a press launch next week.

But like a Friday gift to celebrate the summer, the first track, written by composer David Arnold and lyricist Richard Thomas, has been released and can be listened to below. We think it sounds a little like an Essex take on Hairspray, but we’ve only listened to it once, so won’t be held to this assessment.

Made In Dagenham, which also announced today that Steve Furst, Mark Hadfield and Sophie-Louise Dann will join the cast, is based on the hit British film that tells the 1968-set story of a group of female workers at a Dagenham car plant who come together to fight against the decision to drop their pay.

The stage adaptation, written by One Man, Two Guvnors’ Richard Bean and directed by Rupert Goold, begins its run at the Adelphi  Theatre in October following the closure of the venue’s current hit musical The Bodyguard.
