Made In Dagenham has announced it will conclude its run at the Adelphi Theatre on 11 April, extending its booking period by a final two weeks to enable more theatregoers to catch the Gemma Arterton-led musical.
Made In Dagenham, which opened to critical acclaim last November, is innovative director Rupert Goold’s colourful stage adaptation of the hit film about a group of inspirational women who journeyed from their Essex factory to the Houses of Parliament in their fight for women’s rights for equal pay in the workplace.
Boasting a cast including acclaimed stage actor Arterton and West End regular Adrian Der Gregorian, Goold worked with a creative team including BAFTA and Grammy Award-winning composer David Arnold and Jerry Springer The Opera’s lyricist Richard Thomas to bring the real-life story to life on stage with 1960s inspired music and a striking factory set by Olivier Award winner Bunny Christie.
Announcing its decision to ends it run this spring, Stage Entertainment’s Rebecca Quigley commented: “I’m immensely proud of Made In Dagenham and of everyone involved in bringing it to the stage. Brand new British musicals are few and far between – particularly those that can make you laugh and move you in equal measure.
Our writers, creative team and company have been particularly passionate about telling this true story of a remarkable event in our history with the wit, heart and creativity it deserves. They’ve achieved that and so much more.
Already in discussions to tour the show to the rest of the UK, Quigley commented: “Of course we’re sad to have to say goodbye for now, but to those amazing women who inspired this story, to our wonderful Made In Dagenham musical family and to the hundreds of thousands of people who will have seen the show before 11 April, a very big and heartfelt thank you.”
What will follow Made In Dagenham into the Adelphi Theatre is yet to be announced.
