Old favourites and brand new shows form the line up for the Lyric Hammersmith’s autumn/winter children’s season in the Lyric Studio. The programme of shows covers half term and Christmas school holidays, plus Saturdays throughout the autumn.
For autumn half term (23-27 October), Bare Toed Company returns after a popular appearance at the Lyric last year. Created for young theatregoers from 3 months-6 years old, Bare Toed In The Garden celebrates the changing of the seasons. Accompanied by live music, a trio of performers move around a specially designed set, combining circus and dance, to recreate the seasons.
The Lyric Studio’s programme of Saturday shows kicks off on 8 September with Tam Tam Theatre’s Jabuti, for ages 3-7. Other highlights of the autumn line-up include Theatre Alibi’s new show Lost And Found (29 Sep), Lyngo’s highly interactive fishy tale The Fish’s Wishes (3 Nov), and, to finish the season on 17 November, Monster Hits by Tall Stories, creators of the popular show The Gruffalo. At Christmas time, the Studio presents Christmas Claytime, created by Indefinite Articles for kids aged 3-6. Following on from Claytime’s Easter appearance at the Lyric Hammersmith, this time the hands-on play with clay workshop will have a festive twist, with the creation of snowmen, Christmas puddings and reindeer in the snow clay workshop. Christmas Claytime runs from 24 November- 29 December.
Meanwhile, the Lyric Main Stage presents a new family show this Christmas, created with theatre company Told By An Idiot. Beauty And The Beast (for ages 7+) is a new version of the classic fairy tale. One wild and stormy night a father sets out on a trip, only to get hopelessly lost. Taking shelter in an empty country house, he thinks he is all alone, until the next morning, when he picks a rose for his daughter. Beauty And The Beast runs from 29 November-5 January.
