The Silence Of The Sea

Lynch Billed for Donmar’s Silence

Published 14 December 2012

Finbar Lynch, Leo Bill and Simona Bitmaté will star in Anthony Weigh’s new version of The Silence Of The Sea, which completes the final Donmar Trafalgar season next year.

Lynch, who was last seen on stage in Eugene O’Neill’s Desire Under The Elms at the Lyric Hammersmith, has appeared on stage in productions including Hecuba, The Green Fields Beyond, Fool For Love and Translations at the Donmar Warehouse and The Duchess Of Malfi at the Old Vic.

Star of Laura Wade’s Posh, which opened at the Royal Court theatre earlier this year before transferring to the West End, Bill’s theatre credits include Pains Of Youth, The Observer, The Hothouse and The Reporter at the National Theatre, while his on screen credits include Tim Burton’s Alice In Wonderland and The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Bitmaté, an actress best known for her role in BBC medical drama Doctors, has appeared on stage in You Always Forget Something at the Arcola theatre and Foreign Sky at the Unicorn theatre.

Based on Vercors’ novella, The Silence Of The Sea tells the story of a soldier (Bill) who is billeted to the home of an old man (Lynch) and his niece (Bitmaté) during a time of conflict. Powerless to turn him away, the pair resists him in the only way they can, with silence.

Playing from 10 January to 2 February, Simon Evans’ production will open at the Trafalgar Studio 2 following Conor McPherson’s new version of August Strindberg’s The Dance Of Death, which opens at the venue next week.
