The Lyric Young Company’s debut season plays at the Lyric Hammersmith from 1-4 August. The two plays – Accidental Heroes and The Luna Club – will be performed by West Londoners aged 14-19 who make up the newly formed LYC.
Accidental Heroes plays in the Main House from 2-4 August. This is a highly physical and visual new show about courage and the consequences of violence, by writer and director Mark Murphy. Beginning with news stories and the real life experiences of the cast, Accidental Heroes weaves together the inconsequential and the life-changing, the sublime and the ridiculous.
The LYC has teamed up with Anglo-Brazilian theatre-makers Dende Collective to create the magical and bizarre world of The Luna Club, which is inspired by a series of short stories by Chilean author Isabel Allende. Set in a Latin American tavern, The Luna Club invites the audience to share their tables with bandits, nuns and other characters. The Luna Club runs from 1-4 August in the Lyric Studio.
The Lyric Young Company was launched earlier this year as a new initiative to get young people involved in theatre. The LYC is open to 14-19 year olds who live in West London boroughs and costs just £5 a year to join. For more information visit www.lyric.co.uk
