Love Never Dies to close

First Published 17 June 2011, Last Updated 20 June 2011

Love Never Dies, the follow up to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hugely successful Phantom Of The Opera, has announced it will close on 27 August.

Nominated at this year’s Olivier Awards in seven categories, including Best New Musical, Love Never Dies revisits the story of the famous musical maestro ten years after he has left the Paris Opera House and his great love and protégée, Christine Daaé. Now living on Coney Island, he lures Christine to his new venue, Phantasma, to sing for him once more.

The show, which is playing at the Adelphi theatre and is directed by Jack O’Brien, opened to mixed reviews in March 2010, however Charles Spencer of the Telegraph hailed it as “Lloyd Webber’s finest show since the original Phantom”. In an unusual turn of events, the show closed for a short period in November and reopened later in the month, holding a second press night to showcase the newly updated production.

Love Never Dies, which recently opened in Melbourne with new director Simon Phillips at the helm, currently stars Ramin Karimloo and Celia Graham as the fated lovers.
