Love Never Dies, Andrew Lloyd Webber’s latest musical hit that follows the ongoing story of The Phantom Of The Opera, is to take a performance hiatus from 22 to 25 November as alterations are made to the production.
A statement released by the Really Useful Group, the show’s producers, explains that: “Some changes were written up over the summer and destined for the Australian production, and as they make improvements to the show we’d be mad not to put them into the Adelphi (production in London).” There has been no comment on exactly which elements of the show will be altered.
Theatregoers who have purchased tickets for performances on 22 to 25 November are advised to contact the point of sale.
Love Never Dies, which opened in London in March, picks up the Phantom’s story a decade after the murderous events at the Paris Opera House portrayed in Lloyd Webber’s original musical. The malevolent masked musician has left France behind for life amid the bright lights, loud noises and colourful characters of New York’s Coney Island fairground, but is haunted by his past and cannot forget his love for Christine.
The rollercoaster musical stars Ramin Karimloo as the Phantom – a character he previously played in the London production of The Phantom Of The Opera, becoming the youngest performer to do so – and Sierra Boggess as Christine.
Following its opening in London earlier this year, Love Never Dies will open at Melbourne’s Regent Theatre in May 2011. Far from being a replica of the London production, the Australian show will feature new direction by Simon Phillips, director of Priscilla Queen Of The Desert The Musical, and design by Sydney-based Gabriela Tylesova.
