Epic musical The Lord Of The Rings has announced an extension to its booking period. The adaptation of JRR Tolkien’s fantasy trilogy, which opened at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane earlier this summer was booking until March next year, but tickets are now on sale up to 27 September 2008.
The elf-packed show has just reached a landmark in its production history, having made its 100th performance. Originally premiered in Canada, the story of hobbit Frodo Baggins’s fight to save Middle Earth and destroy the powerful ring has music by AR Rahman and Finnish band Värttinä with Christopher Nightingale, and book and lyrics by Shaun McKenna and Matthew Warchus. Warchus also directs the show, with choreography by Peter Darling.
James Loye leads the adventurers as Frodo Baggins, with Malcolm Storry providing sage advice as Gandalf. Laura Michelle Kelly plays Galadriel and Michael Therriault is Gollum, with another 70 actors, singers and musicians filling the enormous Drury Lane stage.
