Jamie Lloyd’s revival of Alexi Kaye Campbell’s The Pride will continue its explosive tale of prejudice at the Trafalgar Studio 1 until 23 November after the hit play announced an extension to its acclaimed run.
The third production in Lloyd’s Trafalgar Transformed season, the poignant drama, which was originally due to close on 9 November, follows the complex love triangle that unfolds between Philip, Oliver and Sylvia against a background of changing attitudes towards homosexuality.
Spanning more than half a century, interspersing scenes from 1958 with the modern day, The Pride portrays the course of their relationships as past and present worlds grind together and melt apart and the future’s promise of sexual liberation remains ever elusive.
Starring Hayley Atwell, Harry Hadden-Paton, Al Weaver and Mathew Horne, the Olivier Award-winning drama opened at the Whitehall venue in August, when it was described by Official London Theatre’s Charlotte Marshall as an “emotionally taut but devilishly witty drama… grippingly portrayed by the capable cast.”
The Pride, which followed James McAvoy’s Macbeth and Simon Russell Beale and John Simm in The Hothouse, is the first production in the Trafalgar Transformed season to announce an extension to its run.
