While the Olivier Award nominated production of Eugene O’Neill’s Long Day’s Journey Into Night can no longer be seen on the West End stage, theatre fans can now view it online thanks to a new video released by Digital Theatre.
Filmed live during the production’s run at the Apollo theatre last year, the recording, an extract of which is available to view above, features acclaimed performances from David Suchet, Laurie Metcalf, Trevor White and Olivier Award nominee Kyle Soller, and is available to purchase and download or rent.
Also nominated in the Best Revival category at this year’s Olivier Awards with MasterCard, Long Day’s Journey Into Night joins the Young Vic’s hit production of Henrik Ibsen’s A Doll’s House starring Hattie Morahan, who is also nominated for one of London theatre’s prestigious accolades at this year’s ceremony, and the Almeida theatre’s production of King Lear featuring Olivier Award winner Jonathan Pryce in the title role, which have both previously been captured on film by Digital Theatre, a company that specialises in capturing the best of British theatre in high definition.
Directed by Tony Award winner Anthony Page, O’Neill’s semi-autobiographical play tells the story of James Tyrone (Suchet), his wife Mary (Metcalf) and their sons Jamie (White) and Edmund (Soller) as they battle their demons during a long summer’s day.
While Long Day’s Journey Into Night is available to watch online now, fans of the production will have to wait until 28 April to find out whether it will take home either of the two Olivier Awards at this year’s star-studded ceremony at the Royal Opera House.
Exciting announcements about the star performers, presenters and guests involved with the glittering event were revealed earlier today. Read the full story here.
