As London prepares for the Olympic and Paralympic Games in 2012, the Society of London Theatre is striving to ensure that Theatreland’s access provision is as comprehensive as possible.
SOLT has announced that in addition to its ongoing access work, which includes regularly publishing a free Access London Theatre Brochure, it will be employing an Access Officer to work closely with producers and theatre owners in making theatre as accessible as possible.
Mark Rubinstein, President of SOLT, commented: “London theatre is embracing the opportunity to welcome the world in 2012 and is committed to offering the best possible customer service to visitors from the moment they come in to our iconic and beautiful theatre buildings.”
In addition to the brochure, which lists audio-described, captioned and sign language interpreted performances alongside detailed information about the access provision at individual venues, SOLT also currently sends out a monthly access e-bulletin, runs a diary to avoid clashing access performances and lists access performances on the Official London Theatre website.
It is soon to join forces with new website Inclusive London, which provides access information for a wide variety of services across the capital.
