Hackney Empire today released production images of its new pantomime production, Dick Whittington And His Cat which is running until 5 January 2020.
Cast members include: Grand Dame Clive Rowe as Sarah the Cook, Tarin Callender (Hamilton) as Dick Whittington and Annette McLaughlin (Harry Potter and The Cursed Child) who makes her debut panto performance as Queen Rat alongside debuts from Christina Tedders as Alice Fitzwarren and Sue Kelvin (Caroline, Or Change) as Fairy Bowbells.
Based in Jamaica, the show follows young Dick Whittington as he boards the Empire Windrush, chasing the dream of a new life in London. He has no idea of the magic that awaits him and the charming feline friend across the ocean. On his adventure, he finds himself reuniting with his Mum, fighting rodent royalty, meeting an eccentric fairy and winning love, all whilst trying to find fame and fortune.
Promising lots of laughs, topical gags, show-stopping songs and fun dance numbers, this sparkling adaption is not to one to be missed.
We caught a first look at The Prince Of Egypt‘s stunning first costume sketches by Tony Award-winning Broadway designer, Ann Hould-Ward. Her experience also includes designing for opera, dance, television and film and for more than 30 Broadway shows which include the original productions of Stephen Sondheim’s Sunday in the Park with George and Into The Woods, receiving Tony Awards nominations for both.
Ann Hould-Ward said: “The Prince of Egypt has been a dream design job for me, melding the many different cultural and creative influences of Ancient Egypt with the stunning visual dynamic of the animated film – and reimagining them for contemporary theatre audiences. This thrilling project has enabled me to develop a multitude of design bases and fabrics that illustrate the various societies and traditions and to combine them into an extensive collection of over 380 costumes.”
Based on the famous DreamWorks Animation film, the new stage musical features music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz (Wicked, Godspell) and a beautiful collection of over 380 costumes and 250 pairs of shoes.
