London Theatre News Today: Tuesday 26 November

The full cast for Ben Elton’s stage adaption of the critically acclaimed BBC TV sitcom Upstart Crow was announced today. 

Opening at the Gielgud Theatre on 7 February 2020, David Mitchell (playing William Shakespeare) and Gemma Whelan (playing Kate) will be joined on stage by Helen Monks (Raised by Wolves, Inside No. 9) as Susanna, Rob Rouse (Grownups) as Bottom and Steve Speirs (Stella, Rovers) as Burbage. Mark Heap (Friday Night Dinner, Spaced) who is will be known by lovers of the TV show as Robert Greene, will play a new character, Dr John Hall and will be joined by Danielle Phillips (Ready Player One, Father Brown), Jason Callender (Shadow and Bone, 4 O’Clock Club) and Rachel Summers (This Islands Mine).

Following the life of William Shakespeare, the 11-week season will be directed by Olivier Award-winning Sean Foley (The Ladykillers, The Miser) and will feature plenty of Shakespeare puns, easter eggs and anachronisms. To find out more about the David Mitchell’s West End debut, read below!
