The lights will be dimmed for 10 minutes at the London Palladium this evening in honour of entertainer Sir Norman Wisdom, who died yesterday.
Wisdom, who died aged 95 at a nursing home on the Isle of Man, was best known for his work on television and film, though his long career began on the music hall circuit shortly after World War Two.
A comedy actor known for his clownish characters and slapstick routines, he became a familiar face on popular variety show Sunday Night At The London Palladium in the 1950s and 60 alongside entertainers including Bruce Forsyth and Bob Hope.
His stage career took him to Broadway where he starred in the musical Walking Happy in 1967, which earned him a Tony Award nomination, and Not Now Darling in 1970.
His screen work included the films A Stitch In Time and The Night They Raided Minsky’s, sitcom The Last Of The Summer Wine and BBC drama Going Gently, for which he won a BAFTA award.
Wisdom was knighted in 2000.
