Little Match Girl dances to Sadler’s

First Published 29 August 2014, Last Updated 1 September 2014

Acclaimed choreographer Arthur Pita will present his magical take on the classic story The Little Match Girl at Sadler’s Wells this Christmas.

Playing from 13 December to 4 January, the dance theatre show retells Hans Christian Andersen’s tale of a poor young girl’s hopes and dreams through dance, song and live music, and is suitable for everyone aged five and older.

Set on a snowy Christmas Eve, the streets are empty but for the little match girl trying to sell her matches. Cold, hungry and with just one final match flame to keep her warm, she sees a vision of her beloved grandmother and finds herself guided into the night sky all the way to the moon.

The Little Match Girl follows renowned artist Pita’s previous family offering, his collaboration with acclaimed theatre company Theatre-Rites, Mischief. His latest piece will play in Sadler’s Wells’ intimate Lilian Baylis Studio with original music provided by the fittingly named Frank Moon.
