Today, it was announced that Lisa Hammond and Rachael Spence’s new show, Still No Idea, will tour the UK with a three-week run at Royal Court Theatre. The new play is a follow up to their hit No Idea.
In 2010, best friends Lisa and Rachel decided to write a show together. But when they tried, they didn’t know where to start. So they took to the street and asked people what they should write about. After all, the government is chosen by them, so picking a topic for a play should be easy. But what the pair heard was not what they were expecting. When the public saw Lisa in a wheelchair and Racheal not, their ideas were funny, shocking and often heartbreaking. So the friends made a show about it.
Now, almost a decade later, Lisa and Rachel are taking to the stage again to share their story. People say the world has changed and things are looking up. There are more disabled people in the mainstream media. Lisa landed a big part on TV (in Eastenders) and disabled mates are getting regular auditions. So what kind of exciting stories are the TV professionals dreaming up for them?
Still No Idea is the whole story (so far). The British public, the professional writers, the TV execs… Lisa and Racheal’s experiences are told through part verbatim theatre, part improv and part comedy sketch show. Still No Idea is an exposé of good intentions gone bad and how sometimes no matter how hard we try, we still have absolutely no idea.
Presented with Improbable and Royal Court Theatre, Still No Idea will preview at artsdepot in London before going on tour and returning to London from 21 October – 17 November at the Jerwood Theatre Upstairs at Royal Court Theatre. Tickets can be bought through the Royal Court Theatre website.
