Former X Factor star Amelia Lily became the latest pop star to pop up in a West End show last night, when she joined Shrek The Musical for a special performance in aid of Children In Need.
The singer, who finished third in last year’s TV talent contest joined Shrek’s Dean Chisnall for a very special rendition of I’m A Believer at the finale of yesterday’s performance, bringing an audience including stars from The Only Way Is Essex and this year’s X Factor to their feet.
Speaking about the performance, Lily, who reached number two in the charts with her debut single You Bring Me Joy, said: “I’ve always wanted to perform on a West End stage, and Shrek The Musical is such a great show, it’s a dream come true! I’m so happy to be part of BBC Children In Need this year, it’s a fantastic cause.”
Shrek The Musical brings the story of a grumpy ogre and his unlikely quest to the stage, complete with all the best-loved characters from the hit animated film, including Donkey, Princess Fiona and Lord Farquaad. Currently starring Chisnall, Richard Blackwood, Carley Stenson and Neil McDermott, the Olivier Award-winning show will bring its run at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane to an end on 24 February.
Lily’s stage appearance follows previous performances by Alexandra Burke (Les Misérables), Blue (Jersey Boys) and Geri Halliwell (Singin’ In The Rain). The final POP Goes the Musical show is taking place tonight, when soulful singer Macy Gray, girl group Stooshe and another X Factor veteran Joe McElderry will all join the cast of Thriller Live.
