A musical adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s The Picture Of Dorian Gray is to play at the Leicester Square theatre this summer, opening on 2 July (previews from 23 June) and running until 2 August.
Matthew James Thomas, most recently see playing Jez Tyler in ITV stage school drama Britannia High, leads the cast as Dorian Gray, who descends into London’s murky underworld in search of the ultimate sensation.
Thomas, who has also appeared in Stephen Poliakoff’s The Lost Prince and Billy Elliot, stars opposite Ilan Goodman, Allie Croker, James Lloyd Pegg and Vincent Manna in the production which uses live music by Joe Evans to create Gray’s world of glamour and decadence.
The piece, adapted and directed by Linnie Reedman, was first performed in October 2008, when it premiered at the Café Royal, the final theatrical event at the venue before it closed. Dorian Gray went on to play a sell-out season at the Leicester Square theatre’s basement space earlier this year.
