The summer holidays are almost over and you still have some major things on your to-do list. Like take advantage of Kids Week! Even those there’s not long left, we still have loads of tickets available to top shows in London. Here are ten of our must-see productions that are still available with Kids Week.
Captain Corelli’s Mandolin
It’s okay to be a little bit selfish. So taking your kid to see your favourite book come to life on stage is A-Okay. Besides, they’re going to love it! If you’ve not read the book or seen the film, Captain Corelli’s Mandolin is about an unlikely love that blossoms during World War II. It’s a beautiful story that’ll have both you and your child feeling a lot of emotions which you can do some serious bonding over. And it’s not just the last chance to see this show during kids week, it’s the last time you’ll be able to see it at all as it closes on 31 August.
Wicked
Before your kid goes back to school, give them a lesson on the importance of being true to yourself. The reimagining of L Frank Baum’s The Wizard Of Oz shows how Glinda The Good and The Wicked Witch Of The West earned their titles in the land of Oz. Wicked is a tale of love, friendship, betrayal and magic. Beloved by theatre-goers around the world, isn’t it about time you shared this enchanting show with your kid? Dinosaur World Live
And now for something a little bit different. Go on an adventure with Dinosaur World Live – a brilliant interactive show for ages 3+ and show your kid that theatre isn’t just about sitting in a dark room. The action-packed 50-minute show will have you exploring uncharted territories where you’ll discover a pre-historic world of astonishing – and remarkably life-like – dinosaurs. You’ll see all kinds of dino-beasts including a Triceratops, a Giraffatitan, a Microraptor, and a Tyrannosaurus Rex!
Come From Away
Flying into West End lovers’ hearts is the instant hit, Come From Away. It opened in January and promptly won four Olivier Awards, including Best New Musical. It tells the touching true story of a small town in Canada that welcomed thousands of strangers when their planes had to make emergency landings in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy. Full of love and friendship, it’s a heartwarming show that teaches the importance of acceptance.
Brainiac Live
Is your kid a bit of a telly addict? Convince them to leave the screen at home by letting them watch one of their favourite shows come to life. The live science show based on the popular TV show of the same name is filled with high energy experiments which won’t just wow and astound your kid but teach them a thing or two, too. Packed full of excitement and mayhem, Brainiac Live is a great way to prove that learning can be fun just before the school year starts.
Waitress
Serving up a warm slice of musical goodness, Waitress is a beautiful story of a normal woman with extraordinary baking talents who’s trapped in an unhappy marriage. It’s based on the film of the same name and has catchy songs written by Sara Bareilles. Get ready to grab those tissues and have a serious sugar craving after you watch Jenna take hold of her life and discover a strength she never knew she had.
Horrible Histories – Barmy Britain Part Four!
So, we’ve had a science lesson. Now it’s time for history. You and your child can meet some famous faces from the ages with this hilarious show based on the TV show (and film) of the same name. During Horrible Histories, you’ll learn about the ruthless Romans, Richard the Third, Queen Elizabeth I, King James I, King Henry VIII, Mary Tudor, Mary Queen of Scots and more during this remarkable show that has been an absolute hit for eight years running.
The Play That Goes Wrong
Laughter can bring people together and after watching The Play That Goes Wrong, you and your nipper will be best pals after seeing this hilarious show. It follows the antics of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, who are trying to stage a production of a 1920s murder mystery. But, as the title may suggest, things don’t go quite to plan and result in a display of sheer mayhem and disaster.
The Gruffalo Live On Stage
If you have a really little one at home, delight them with a trip to see The Gruffalo Live On Stage. Suitable for children aged 3 and over, it’s a brightly coloured, high-energy show that will make Mouse come to life as she tries to outwit the cunning Fox, the eccentric old Owl and the high-spirited Snake before she evades the terrifying Gruffalo.
Thriller Live
Banging tunes, impressive moves and spectacular effects. Educate your child on what was popular in your day at this concert-style show that celebrates the work of Michael Jackson. Thriller Live is unlike any other show on the West End and it’s a great way to introduce a reluctant teen to the theatre. Just get ready to hear Billie Jean playing from your kid’s room a lot for the next few weeks.
