Chris Larner’s award-winning solo show An Instinct For Kindness will play a three week run at the Trafalgar Studio 2 this spring.
The Fringe First Award-winning show, which plays from 10 April (press night 11 April) to 28 April, makes its London premiere following a critically acclaimed run at the 2011 Edinburgh Fringe Festival when The Independent described the show as “Intensely moving, at times overwhelming”.
Taking on the contentious topic of assisted suicide, An Instinct For Kindness tells the story of Larner’s 2010 journey to Switzerland’s Dignitas clinic with his chronically ill ex-wife, the actress Allyson Lee. Returning home alone, the actor, writer and director decided to create a show reflecting on the circumstances, morality and humanity surrounding the journey.
Through a candid and sometimes comic performance, Larner explores both the profound personal implications and the wider ethical issues surrounding the much discussed and controversial issue.
As an actor Larner has appeared in the Royal Shakespeare Company’s Alice In Wonderland and Wind In The Willows at the National Theatre, but is best known for his long-running role in television drama London’s Burning. He has written extensively for comedy duo The Right Size and is also a composer, penning Edinburgh Fringe Festival hit musicals The Translucent Frogs Of Quuup and On The Island Of Aars.
An Instinct Of Kindness is directed by another Edinburgh Fringe Festival regular, Hannah Eidinow, the director of five Fringe First Award-winning plays. Her London credits include the Arcola theatre’s The Lady From The Sea and A British Subject at the Arts theatre.
