La Clique unveils tantalising new treats

Published 25 March 2009

The ever-changing desert trolley of cabaret delights that is London show La Clique will feature two new delicacies from tomorrow night, Le Gateau Chocolat and Carl-Einar Häckner.

Confusingly not, in fact, a chocolate cake, Le Gateau Chocolat is an opera-singing diva with a penchant for being wrapped in body-hugging lycra and a passion for laughter. A previous performer at both the Royal Opera House and the Copenhagen Opera House, Le Gateau Chocolat sings outrageous and moving renditions of pop, jazz and musical theatre numbers in a killer baritone.

Swede Häckner blends musical comedy and illusion in a performance that appears both utterly clueless and brilliantly executed.

Both performers join a motley crew of artists who helped the almost indescribable La Clique to the title of Best Entertainment at the recent Laurence Olivier Awards.

The show, a blend of cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary variety, opened at the Hippodrome in October 2008, and has also included a Norwegian contortionist, a cabaret strip artist and a PVC-clad sword swallower.
