The Laurence Olivier Award-nominated, boundary-pushing cabaret La Clique has announced an eight week extension to its run at the Hippodrome, where it will now play until 14 June.
Nominated in the category of Best Entertainment, opposite Brief Encounter and Maria Friedman: Rearranged, La Clique is described as ‘a melange of cabaret, new burlesque, circus sideshow and contemporary variety’. Among its ever-changing line-up of acts are hula girl Marawa, aerial hoop artist Bret Pfister, the Skating Willers and performance artist Ursula Martinez. From 4 March, the quirky cabaret will also include hypnotic trapeze artist Erna Sommer, and comedian, actor and musician Amy G.
The eye-popping, jaw-dropping entertainment show opened at the famous London venue in October 2008, reopening the historic venue, which had previously served as a water circus, a concert venue and a nightclub, as a live performance space.
While the extension announcement is good news for La Clique, it comes at a time when the venue’s future is uncertain. Developers United Leisure Gaming have a licence to turn the Hippodrome into a casino, though no timescale has yet been announced for that project.
