Former EastEnders star Kim Medcalf will make her London stage return alongside Matilda Sturridge and Ellie Nunn when Ruby In The Dust’s production of Gatsby transfers to the Arts Theatre in October.
F Scott Fitzgerald’s classic 1920s-set tale, which has been given the musical treatment by composer and lyricist Joe Evans, will play Monday performances from 26 October to 16 November.
Medcalf, who is best known for her long-running role as EastEnder Sam Mitchell between 2002 and 2005, returns to the London stage following performances in 2006’s Hay Fever and 2007’s Cabaret.
Sturridge, who starred in the show’s premiere at the King’s Head Theatre in 2012, will reprise her role as the musical’s leading lady Daisy Buchanan, while Nunn joins the production following her most recent theatrical outing in Shakespeare In Love.
Gatsby, which features a book by Linnie Reedman, follows the elusive title character during a 1920s New York summer. To the outside world Gatsby is a man who has everything, but beneath the shimmering surface of his life is a silent longing that can never be fulfilled.
Ruby In The Dust’s production premiered at the King’s Head Theatre in 2012 before returning to the venue for another successful run the following year.
Gatsby transfers to the Arts Theatre for four performances, playing alongside fellow musical hit American Idiot. The Aaron Sidwell and Amelia Lily-led production, which brings the story of three boyhood friends to life with a score of some of Green Day’s best-loved tracks, is playing at the venue until 22 November.
