Tickets for the 15th annual Kids Week go on sale tomorrow with a record-breaking 38 top London shows taking part in the incredible campaign that offers parents the chance to take children to the theatre for free.
Kids Week offers theatre fans the chance to receive a free child’s ticket for every adult ticket purchased to one of the participating shows, plus the opportunity to purchase up to two more children’s tickets half-price.
This year, theatregoers will be able to book for hit musicals including Billy Elliot The Musical, Disney’s The Lion King, Jersey Boys, Les Misérables, Singin’ In The Rain and We Will Rock You, acclaimed comedies The 39 Steps, One Man, Two Guvnors and Yes, Prime Minister, exciting dramas Chariots Of Fire, The Doctor’s Dilemma and The Woman In Black, and colourful children’s shows Dora The Explorer and The Tiger Who Came To Tea.
2012’s Kids Week was launched today at a special performance at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. Hosted by Shrek The Musical star Richard Blackwood, more than 1000 children from 33 London schools enjoyed performances from some of the productions taking part in this year’s event including Horrible Histories, The Tiger Who Came To Tea and Thriller Live.
Children at the launch today also enjoyed a Q&A with West End stars including The Wizard Of Oz’s Sophie Evans and Shrek The Musical’s Neil McDermott and Carley Stenson, offering a taste of some of the fantastic free events and activities on offer as part of this year’s Kids Week. As always, as well as purchasing a ticket to a show, there are a range of opportunities to get involved before taking your seat at the performance, from a Tigerlympics Tea Party to the chance to become a Munchkin in the merry old land of Oz or take part in a Terrible Tudor Horrible Histories workshop.
Part of the London 2012 Festival, Ruth Mackenzie, Director of the festival, today described the exclusive Kids Week activities as offering “the perfect once in a lifetime experience for kids to try out their theatre skills with West End professionals in the Summer of 2012.”
