Kids Week in the West End 2010 is celebrating another record-breaking year, selling over 25,000 tickets in its first day of sales, six thousand more than the previous record set in 2009.
Running from 13 to 27 August, the annual promotion run by the Society of London Theatre, is now in its 13th year and enables thousands of children to go to the theatre for free, with one free child’s ticket offered for every full paying adult ticket bought. Up to two additional children’s tickets are also available to purchase half price.
Booking opened at 10:00 yesterday (13 July) and thousands of theatergoers snapped up tickets for over 30 participating shows ranging from West End musicals including Wicked and Billy Elliot The Musical, to plays such as The Railway Children and The 39 Steps, and dance shows including Burn The Floor and Tap Dogs.
Speaking about this year’s success, Kids Week organiser Emma De Souza said: “The Society of London Theatre is delighted to announce that 24 hours after the launch of Kids Week in the West End general booking going live, ticket sales stand at just over 25,000 – a staggering increase of 21% when compared with last year’s figures at this stage.”
As well as free tickets, Kids Week also offers young people the chance to experience the magic of theatre hands-on with workshops and show-linked activities available for each participating show. Families can learn about the masks and puppets in The Lion King, learn the words and moves to a song from Grease or explore how theatre is made outdoors at the Regent’s Park Open Air theatre.
Those who have not yet purchased tickets need not panic, as tickets are still available and stocks are being updated throughout the promotion. For details about all the shows and activities on offer or to book, visit www.kidsweek.co.uk or call the Kids Week Ticketmaster hotline on 0844 248 5151.
