Will Keen is to replace Iain Glen in Kiss Of The Spider Woman at the Donmar Warehouse, which opens on 25 April (previews from 19 April).
A statement issued today said that Keen will now play Molina “due to the indisposition of Iain Glen”, who had been due to play the role opposite Rupert Evans as Valentin in Manuel Puig’s play.
Kiss Of The Spider Woman tells the story of two men forced to share a cell in a Latin American jail. Valentin is a young Marxist rebel punished for his ideals, while Molina is a romantic fantasist condemned for his sexuality. Through the glamorous world of the movies, an unlikely relationship is formed that offers both men hope of survival.
Puig originally adapted the play from his own novel, which has also spawned both an Oscar-winning film starring William Hurt and Raul Julia, and a Broadway musical.
Keen was recently seen playing TS Eliot in Lindsay Posner’s production of Tom And Viv at the Almeida. His other London stage work includes The Changeling for Cheek By Jowl at the Barbican, The Rubenstein Kiss at the Hampstead, Pericles at the Lyric Hammersmith and The Coast Of Utopia at the National.
Kiss Of The Spider Woman is directed by Charlotte Westenra in her Donmar directorial debut.
