Theatrical charity Stage One has announced Gavin Kalin as the latest recipient of its Start-Up Investment Fund, awarding the emerging producer £30,000 to co-produce the forthcoming West End transfer of the Young Vic’s A Doll’s House.
Founder of Totally Theatre Productions, a video production company specialising in theatre whose clients include West End hits Wicked and Charlie And The Chocolate Factory, Kalin will co-produce the show that opens at the Duke of York’s theatre in August, following his recent work on the current production of The Ladykillers at the Vaudeville theatre.
Talking about the monetary support that he has received from Stage One, Kalin said: “Within seven months I have gone from attending the Stage One New Producer course to being awarded the Start-Up Fund and I could not be happier. Stage One has helped me realise my potential for working as a theatre producer and I thank everyone involved in this fantastic organisation for their continued support and guidance.”
Stage One is a charity committed to helping new producers learn and develop in the theatre industry through apprentice schemes, workshops, mentoring and financial support. Its Start-Up Investment Fund is only available to outstanding new producers who have already worked with Stage One. Previous recipients include James Quaife for Barking In Essex, Richard Darbourne for the transfer of All That Fall to the Arts theatre, Sue Scott Davison for Our Boys and Eleanor Lloyd for Butley.
A Doll’s House, which Kalin will co-produce in the West End with Mark Rubinstein and Neil Laidlaw, will see Hattie Morahan reprise her Olivier Award nominated role as Nora Helmer alongside Dominic Rowan as Torvald.
A Doll’s House will play from 8 August to 26 October at the Duke of York’s theatre following David Leveaux’s acclaimed production of Passion Play, starring Zoë Wanamaker and Owen Teale, which ends its run on 3 August.
