Last week, it was confirmed that All About Eve starring Gillian Anderson and Lily James will be premiering the Noël Coward Theatre in February next year. And today, it was announced that theatre veteran Julian Ovenden will be joining the cast.
Julian’s extensive career has seen him appear in Merrily We Roll Along, Grand Hotel, Annie Get Your Gun, and King Lear. He has also starred in film and TV shows such as Foyle’s War, Downton Abbey, and The Crown.
He joins not only Gillian Anderson and Lily James, but also Monica Dolan, Sheila Reid, and Rhashan Stone.
All About Eve is based on the multi-award-winning film of the same name, which in turn was inspired by Mary Orr’s original play The Wisdom Of Eve. It tells the story of Margo Channing (Gillian) a legend and true star of the theatre. The spotlight is hers, always has been, but now there’s Eve (Lily), her biggest fan. Young, beautiful Eve. The golden girl, the girl next door. But you know all about Eve… don’t you…?
Ivo van Hove will be directing, with set and lighting design from Jan Versweyveld, costume design by An D’Huys and music from double Mercury Prize-winner PJ Harvey, alongside Tom Gibbons’ sound design.
