It’s one of the funniest plays to have ever graced the London stage. And now it’s been announced that Jeremy Herrin, Artistic Director of Headlong, will revive Michael Frayn’s Noises Off at the Lyric Hammersmith – where the play premiered nearly four decades ago.
Noises Off a multi-award winning backstage comedy about a show undergoing something of an on-the-night meltdown. Requiring split-second timing and technical brilliance, it pays tribute to hilarious happenings behind the scenes with a company of actors, highlighting just how unpredictable life in the theatre can be.
Noises Off will return to the Lyric Hammersmith between 27 June and 27 July, with press night on 2 July. Casting and the full creative team for the show are yet to be announced, but Max Jones will design the new production.
The show’s 1982 premiere opened to massive acclaim, and saw it go on to become an iconic British comedy. Of the announcement, playwright Frayn said, “It’s a great personal pleasure for me, of course, to see my play come home, after all its travels around the world in the last forty years, to the theatre where it took its first hopeful but still uncertain steps.”
Herrin’s previous directorial credits include Labour Of Love; People, Places And Things; This House; and The Nether, all in the West End.
This bold new production promises to be one fans will enjoy – and new audiences will love discovering.
