London stage regular Jamie Muscato will star in Bend It Like Beckham The Musical from 14 December when he takes on the role of coach Joe in the West End’s football mad musical.
The musical theatre star will replace former leading man Jamie Campbell Bower to star alongside Natalie Dew and Lauren Samuels in the heartwarming stage adaptation of Paul Mayeda Berges and Gurinder Chadha’s tale of one girl’s struggle between her dream to play the beautiful game and the very different life her family have planned for her.
Muscato joins the critically acclaimed hit following extensive credits in numerous London musicals including the National Theatre’s The Light Princess, Dogfight at the Southwark Playhouse and West End productions of Rock Of Ages, Love Story and Spring Awakening.
His latest role will see him join the show’s original cast, which also includes Sophie-Louise Dann, Jamal Andréas, Preeya Kalidas, Tony Jayawardena and Natasha Jayetileke, who have entertained audiences at the Phoenix Theatre since the show made its world premiere in May.
Described by Official London Theatre’s Matthew Amer as “Irresistibly joyful and gloriously heart-warming,” Bend It Like Beckham The Musical won public and critical acclaim for its colourful fusion of London and Indian culture that brought to life the story first made famous in the Keira Knightley-led film with a brand new score by Howard Goodall and Charles Hart.
