Duncan James, the ice dancing former member of boy band Blue, has extended his stay in the West End by three weeks. The singer, who stepped into the shiny suit of suave lawyer Billy Flynn in the musical Chicago on 2 July, continues in the role until 8 September.
James shot to fame in the first half of this decade as one quarter of boy band Blue. During their time together, the harmonious four notched up several chart hits including Fly By, All Rise and One Love, as well as teaming up with Elton John and Stevie Wonder for hit singles before splitting in 2004. Earlier this year James proved he can dance as well as sing, and on ice no less, by coming third in the ITV1 celebrity ice skating competition Dancing On Ice.
In Chicago, James plays the lawyer employed by murderous showgirls Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly to get them out of jail. The current cast includes Amra-Faye Wright as Velma, Josefina Gabrielle as Roxie, Matthew Lloyd Davies as Amos Hart and Susie McKenna as Mama Morton.
The current production of Kander and Ebb’s Chicago is fast approaching its 10th birthday in the West End, as it opened in November 1997 at the Adelphi. It has been in its current home, the Cambridge, since April last year.
