Jaffrey to be Chicago Smash

British star of American hit series Smash, Raza Jaffrey is to swap the small screen for the West End stage to play Billy Flynn in long-running musical Chicago.

The actor, who plays Dev Sundaram in Sky Atlantic’s musical drama that looks behind the scenes at the making of a Broadway show, will take to the Garrick theatre stage from 16 May. He continues in the role of the sleazy lawyer until 14 July, when he will be replaced by Olympic gold medallist and Dancing On Ice judge Robin Cousins.

Jaffrey may be best known for his TV roles, which include BBC spy drama Spooks and the BBC’s tale of infidelity and intrigue Mistresses, but he has previously appeared on the London stage, playing Sky in Mamma Mia! and Akaash in the original production of Bombay Dreams.

Jaffrey will join a cast that currently includes Chicago regulars Sarah Soetaert and Rachel McDowall, who play murderous showgirl Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly in the Olivier Award-winning tale of corruption and showbusiness that has been entertaining London audiences since 1997.

Fans of Jaffrey or Cousins who would like to see Chicago during the Olympic period can take advantage of the Get Into London Theatre Summer 2012 ticket offer, which is offering tickets to the show reduced to £20, £30 and £40 for the duration of the Olympics. Tickets must be booked before 31 May. Book now.
