A West End puppet, quite frankly, is not a West End puppet without Simon Lipkin attached to one puppety appendage or another. War Horse, before you eagerly leap in with your impressive puppeting knowledge, is the exception that proves the rule.
First there was Trekkie Monster, Avenue Q’s loveable beast with a penchant for the internet’s less salubrious content. Then came I Can’t Sing’s straight talking hound Barlow, whose humour was also a little close to the, ahem, bone.
Such smut will undoubtedly have been washed away for his latest marionette manipulating outing in The Lorax. Based on the Dr Seuss story about a cantankerous critter set on protecting the Earth from a greedy, tree-chopping businessman, this is very much a family tale with an important moral heading to the Waterloo venue this Christmas.
We’ve been eager to see exactly what the stage Lorax would look like and these pictures from the rehearsal room don’t disappoint. We’ve already fallen for the hairy little fella. But now we want to know much more about what the ensemble are up to.
