There are few venues capable of providing as immersive an ambience as that of the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse – and it looks like upcoming dystopian tale The White Devil will take full advantage of this.
Inspired by bizarre real-life events from Renaissance Italy, John Webster’s Jacobean text conjures an extraordinary tale of hypocrisy, seduction and revenge. In Director Annie Ryan’s bold take on the original, her cast of villains, victims and conspirators move through the dark spaces between reality and nightmares, creating scandal and destruction at every shadowy turn.
In Annie’s dystopian reimagining, the flickering shadows of the candlelit Playhouse will reveal a nightmarish world of deceit and madness, where lust and desire entwine and breed murderous atrocity.
