If, like us, you’ve been enjoying Michael Xavier’s weekly blog about life working on The Pajama Game, you’ll no doubt be similarly delighted to take a look inside the show’s rehearsal room, courtesy of photographer David McNeil.
Somewhat unsurprisingly, but nevertheless disappointingly, you can’t spot either nightwear or surplus copies of Trivial Pursuits in the images from The Pajama Game’s preparations. This sad omission does not seem to have dulled the spirits of the Adler and Ross musical’s cast. They seem happier than a chocoholic with a high metabolism on Easter Day.
And why shouldn’t Xavier, leading lady Joanna Riding, Peter Polycarpou, Eugene McCoy and co look happy. The classic Broadway musical, which tells a love story set against workers’ unrest at a PJ factory, comes to the Shaftesbury Theatre on the back of scintillating reviews for its run at Chichester’s Minerva Theatre. It also boasts a pair of Olivier Award winners at its helm, director Richard Eyre and choreographer Stephen Mear.
The musical, which boasts songs including I’m Not At All In Love, Hey There and Hernando’s Hideaway, begins previews from 2 May.
