Guns, boats and sword fights, it looks like Pirates Of The Caribbean has made it on to the stage. It hasn’t, of course. This is just what’s happening in rehearsals for Polka Theatre’s forthcoming production of Minotaur.
Fusing modern-day war with Greek mythology, Kevin Dyer’s new play for children aged eight to 14-years-old follows Freddie as he embarks on a journey through time to rescue his father from a faraway conflict.
Judging by the serious expressions on the actors’ faces, there is much trouble to be found along the way, yet there is no sign of the half-bull, half man that Freddie must slay in order to save the day. We’ll have to wait until 4 April, when the show begins its run at the Wimbledon venue, to be allowed that pleasure.
