We said it before in our summer season round-up feature and we’ll say it again now: if you need one reason to book to see The Old Vic’s Jekyll & Hyde, booking so you can say you saw Drew McOnie’s work before he went stratospheric would not be such a bad idea in our opinion. A bit smug maybe, but certainly savvy.
If you didn’t predict it with his sensational work on Bugsy Malone, his Olivier Award win last month for his choreography for In The Heights confirmed it: McOnie is one of the UK’s most exciting rising stars. And now his work comes to The Old Vic as he directs and choreographs his own modern, sexy and dark interpretation of Robert Louis Stevenson’s The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll And Mr Hyde.
The production – the first ever to merge dance and theatre on The Old Vic stage – starts previews from 20 May, so we were more than a little bit excited when these rehearsal images hit our inbox.
