In rehearsal: Charley’s Aunt

First Published 7 September 2012, Last Updated 20 August 2013

Gavin And Stacey star Mathew Horne is set to make his eagerly awaited return to the London stage this month in Ian Talbot’s production of Brandon Thomas’ classic comedy Charley’s Aunt.

Last seen on stage in Entertaining Mr Sloane and well known for his comic screen appearances in shows including The Catherine Tate Show and Teachers, comedy may be no stranger to Horne, but playing an 19th century eccentric Lord who is persuaded to don a dress to pass himself off as mischievous Charley’s aunt may well be.

When the real incarnation of the aforementioned aunt is to be portrayed by the glamorous Jane Asher, the challenge seems even greater and far more hilarious.

Joining the pair in the Menier Chocolate Factory farce are Charles Kay, Norman Pace, Steven Pacey, Benjamin Askew, Ellie Beaven, Charlie Clemmow, Dominic Tighe and Leah Whitaker.

While previews don’t start until 20 September, you can take a peek into how the cast are busy getting into character by taking a look at photographer Catherine Ashmore’s photos taken during rehearsals above.
