In rehearsal: Blithe Spirit

First Published 25 February 2014, Last Updated 6 August 2014

After more than 40 years away from our stages, Angela Lansbury is back in the West End playing a character craftier than even that typewriter loving Jessica Fletcher.

From 1 March, the acting icon will play clairvoyant Madame Arcati in Noël Coward’s comedy Blithe Spirit, a role you wouldn’t need to be psychic to know she’ll nail – she’s already got the Tony Award for her performance in the Broadway production to prove it.

Thanks to photographer Johan Persson’s images above, we can take a sneaky peek into rehearsals where Lansbury has been reunited with her Broadway director Michael Blakemore and joined by a company of British actors bringing their fresh take to the play’s colourful line-up of characters.

Spot Jemima Rooper, possibly using those flowers to hide behind as ghost Elvira, while Charles Edwards and Janie Dee as husband and wife play conspirators on the sofa. Intrigued as to what they’re discussing?
