The Vaudeville theatre’s An Ideal Husband and The Glass Menagerie at the Young Vic theatre have both added extensions to their runs.
West End comedy An Ideal Husband will now play until 26 February, adding another week to the intended schedule. Starring Samantha Bond, Elliot Cowan, Alexander Hanson and Rachael Stirling, the production opened on 10 November and was described by Charles Spencer at the Daily Telegraph as “hugely entertaining”.
Written by Oscar Wilde in 1895, the comedy is a stylish critique of politicians and social morality. Sir Robert Chiltern (Hanson) is a successful Government minister happily married to his loving wife (Stirling), but when Mrs Cheveley (Bond) arrives in London with daming evidence of a past misdeed their lives are turned upside down.
The Young Vic theatre’s production of Tennessee Williams’s deeply touching play, The Glass Menagerie, will now run into the new year, extending by two weeks to 15 January. Opening last week to critical acclaim and a host of four star reviews, the Joe-Hill Gibbins directed production stars Deborah Findlay, Sinead Matthews, Leo Bill and Kyle Soller.
The Glass Menagerie follows Tom, a young would-be poet who struggles to support both his overbearing and sentimental mother and his delicate, obsessive sister. This new version features a score by the Oscar-winning musician Dario Marianelli.
The production plays as part of the Young Vic’s 40th anniversary season, with a revival of Vernon God Little following at the venue on 27 January.
