I Can’t Sing cancels previews

Published 24 February 2014

I Can’t Sing has cancelled its first two preview performances following technical issues described by producers as caused by the highly anticipated musical comedy’s “ambitious staging”.

Audience members with tickets for now cancelled performances on 27 and 28 February are advised to contact their original point of purchase for details of how they can reschedule their booking.

Commenting on the decision, Stage Entertainment’s Rebecca Quigley said: “After much careful thought and discussion we’ve decided that we need to take some more time to work on technical aspects of I Can’t Sing! at the London Palladium. As audiences will soon see, the production is hugely ambitious, and the volume of installation and scale of the set means that technical work has taken slightly longer than could have been anticipated to make the show audience-ready.

“We want everyone who comes to see I Can’t Sing!, from the very first preview, to have the best possible experience. We therefore feel that this course of action is the responsible thing to do as producers, both for our cast and production staff at the theatre and for our audiences. This is not a decision taken lightly and I’d like to apologise to those who had booked, and indeed sold out, these initial two performances.”

The first preview of the show written by TV comedian Harry Hill and his long-term collaborator Steve Brown’s musical theatre debut will now take place at the London Palladium on 1 March.

Taking an affectionate poke at The X Factor’s judges and its colourful contestants, the show boasts a leading cast that will see Olivier Award winner Nigel Harman, Victoria Elliott and Ashley Knight cast their judging glare over a company of talented musical theatre stars including Cynthia Erivo, Charlie Baker and Alan Morrissey stars as the eccentric contestants.

Quigley concluded the producer’s statement saying, “The entire I Can’t Sing! family cannot wait for everyone to see the show and we thank everyone for their patience and understanding.”
