Nicholas Hytner and Alan Bennett will reunite for the premiere of the renowned playwright’s latest play People at the National Theatre next autumn.
While dates and casting details are yet to be confirmed, People will play in late October and will mark Bennett’s return to the theatrical powerhouse following 2009’s The Habit Of Art which was also directed by the venue’s Artistic Director Hytner.
Hytner and Bennett’s first success together came in 2004 with the multi award-winning Histories Boys. After a critically-acclaimed run at the National Theatre, the production transferred to the West End and Broadway before being adapted into the BAFTA nominated film.
Bennett, arguably one of Britain’s most successful playwrights, has enjoyed a long relationship with the National Theatre with past productions also including The Wind In The Willows and The Madness Of George III, which is currently playing at the Apollo theatre.
The writer found screen fame in 1987 with his series Talking Heads, which was subsequently adapted for stage winning the author an Olivier Award for his performance in the production. His numerous other productions include Getting On, The Old Country, Kafka’s Dick and Enjoy.
