Olivier Award nominated writer and performer Caroline Horton will return to the Bush theatre later this year to present her new play Mess.
Playing at the west London venue on 20 and 21 November as part of a national tour, the three-hander is based on Horton’s own experience of anorexia nervosa, offering a genuine insight into the condition together with the misconceptions surrounding it.
Presented in association with eating disorder charity Beat, Mess charts the tale of Josephine, Boris and Sistahl, three friends who are catapulted from the depths of despair to the heights of joy and hope as they strive to tell the story of Josephine’s anorexia.
The play, which features performances by Australian actress Emily Goddard and musician Seirol Davies, marks Horton’s first appearance at the Bush following the success of You’re Not Like The Other Girls Chrissy in 2012, which was subsequently nominated for the Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre award at this year’s Olivier Awards with MasterCard.
Described by The Independent’s Alice Jones as “one of the oddest, funniest, saddest pieces of theatre I’ve seen in some time”, Mess plays at the Bush prior to Tom Wells’ Jumpers For Goalposts, the playwright’s return to the venue following his 2011 hit The Kitchen Sink.
