Horovitch joins Hampstead’s Hysteria

David Horovitch, Adrian Schiller and Lydia Wilson will join double Olivier Award winner Antony Sher in Terry Johnson’s self-directed production of Hysteria at the Hampstead theatre.

Well known for his performances on stage and screen, Horovitch’s theatre credits include the National Theatre’s production of Grief, When We Are Married at the Garrick theatre, and Life Is A Dream and Mary Stuart at the Donmar Warehouse. On screen he is best known for his long-running role as Inspector Slack in BBC murder mystery series Miss Marple, but the actor has also appeared in television series including Bognor, Foyle’s War and Trial And Retribution.

Wilson, whose on screen credits include acclaimed Channel 4 drama Any Human Heart and British science fiction film Never Let Me Go, has previously appeared on the London stage in productions including The Heretic and The Acid Test at the Royal Court, and Blasted at the Lyric Hammersmith, which picked up an Olivier Award for Outstanding Achievement in an Affiliate Theatre in 2011.

Completing the cast is Schiller whose stage credits include the National Theatre’s productions of The Veil and Every Good Boy Deserves Favour, and Our Private Life at the Royal Court.

Johnson’s 1993 farce, which plays from 5 September to 12 October at the Hampstead theatre, sees Sher take on the role of Sigmund Freud who, having fled Nazi-occupied Austria, has settled in Swiss Cottage where he hopes to spend his final days in peace. But when Salvador Dali turns up and discovers a half-naked woman in the closet, his hope of peace seems increasingly unlikely.

The production will open at the Swiss Cottage venue prior to Simon Paisley Day’s debut play Raving, the tale of a couple struggling to cope with parenthood, which plays from 17 October to 23 November.
