Horne and Staunton make stage return

First Published 6 April 2009, Last Updated 6 April 2009

Mathew Horne and Imelda Staunton will return to the cast of Entertaining Mr Sloane today following their illness-induced absence.

The pair has not performed in the show since Horne collapsed during Thursday’s matinee performance and Staunton complained of feeling ill. Both were diagnosed with a virus and missed four performances while resting and recovering. They both return to the Trafalgar Studio stage today to complete the final week of the show’s run.

Speaking about his return, Horne said: “I am delighted to say I am feeling much better and will return to the show tonight for the final week. I feel terrible for letting audience members down last week when I was ill, and I am so grateful for the wonderful letters of well wishes from everyone. We have all had an amazing time working on Sloane since January and I am just glad to be back in full health for the final week of this tremendous production.”

Joe Orton’s dark comedy about a brother and sister vying for the affections of their new lodger opened at the Trafalgar Studio 1 on 30 January, starring Horne in the title role.

The young actor is best known for playing Gavin in hit comedy Gavin And Stacey, but has had a busy start to 2009, appearing in Entertaining Mr Sloane while also promoting new TV sketch show Horne And Corden and film Lesbian Vampire Killers.
