Conleth Hill, Will Keen, Felicity Montagu and Malcolm Sinclair will join the previously announced Rowan Atkinson in Quartermaine’s Terms, as the Mr Bean star makes his return to the stage after almost 25 years.
Directed by Richard Eyre, Simon Gray’s 1960s-set play will play from 23 January and marks the first major revival since its London premiere in 1981.
The tragicomedy tells the story of St John Quartermaine (Atkinson), a kind and pleasant but utterly hopeless teacher. An almost permanent feature in the staff room, he’s always available to listen to the problems of his self-obsessed colleagues. But when a new principal is appointed, Quartermaine’s future looks precarious.
Game Of Thrones actor Hill boasts numerous theatre credits, most recently appearing in London at the National Theatre’s 2011 production of The Cherry Orchard. Other credits at the lauded Southbank venue include All’s Well That Ends Well, The Seafarer, Democracy and Philistines. Other high profile performances include The Producers and Stones In His Pockets, which won him an Olivier Award for Best Actor.
Keen is also a regular on the London stage, appearing in Tom And Vic and Five Gold Rings at the Almeida theatre, Huis Clos at Trafalgar Studio 2, The Arsonists for the Royal Court, Kiss Of The Spider Woman at the Donmar Warehouse, The Changeling at the Barbican and The Coast Of Utopia at the National Theatre.
Best known for her work on screen, Montagu’s roles in I’m Alan Partridge and Nighty Night built her a strong reputation in comedy with other television appearances including Suburban Shootout, Skins and Harry Enfield’s Television Programme. The actress has also appeared in films Bridget Jones’s Diary, Confetti and How To Lose Friends And Alienate People.
Arguably best known for his long-running role in BBC series Pie In The Sky, Sinclair was nominated for an Olivier Award for his role in Privates On Parade at the Donmar Warehouse. The actor’s other numerous theatre credits include The Habit Of Art, The Power Of Yes and The History Boys at the National theatre, My Fair Lady at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane and Rosmersholm at the Almeida theatre. On screen he has appeared in films including Casino Royale and V For Vendetta.
Quartermaine’s Terms will play at the Wyndham’s theatre until 13 April.
