A new stage adaptation of Jacqueline Wilson’s popular children’s book Hetty Feather will make its world premiere at the Rose Theatre Kingston this April starring Holby City’s Phoebe Thomas in the title role.
The new production brings together Sally Cookson, whose innovative take on Cinderella earned an Olivier Award nomination last year, and playwright Emma Reeves (Carrie’s War, Cool Hand Luke) who returns to the work of the hugely popular writer and former Children’s Laureate following her long-running CBBC screen adaptation of Wilson‘s The Story Of Tracy Beaker.
Packed with live music and exhilarating circus skills, Hetty Feather tells the story of a feisty Victorian heroine who must escape from the Foundling Hospital to find a family of her own.
Audiences will tremble as she faces Matron Stinking Bottomly, be thrilled as she discovers the squirrel house and Tanglefields Travelling Circus, and gasp as she endures a night locked in the attic, all in a bid to find her real mother.
This latest project that brings another of Wilson’s much-loved books to life will no doubt be a popular choice following a recent vote revealing Hetty Feather to be the fans’ favourite character dreamt up by the author who has sold more than 35 million books in the UK and is soon to publish her 100th book.
Suitable for audiences aged seven and older, Hetty Feather will premiere at the Kingston venue on 5 April and enjoy a two-week-run before heading off on a UK and international tour.
